About

The Parish of St. Elisabeth, Van Nuys, often spoken as the "Mother Church" of the San Fernando Valley was, actually, until the end of Word l War I, a mission of Holy Trinity. The First Church was built in 1919 now serves as the classrooms for ourElementary School. On 1949 the new church was constructed and in 1950 was dedicated by Archbishop James McIntyre Homily given by Bishop Timothy Manning. St. Elisabeth is noted for its number of rest homes convalescent homes and its large hospitals. Monsignor O'Dwyer served the church for many years until his passing in 1970. He was succeeded by Monsignor Duggan, later by Father Tim Dyers, Father Paul Hruby, Father Kevin Nolan, with the 1980 and 1990 came a large migration of catholic brothers and sisters from Mexico and Central America. At this time we are under the care and guide of the Rogationist Fathers of St. Hannibal Di Francia. The Parish would not be the same with the many groups that give witness to a vital and living of Christ here in Van Nuys.
